Loz’s secret to rock hard abs
At one time, underneath every kid’s favourite dinosaur, Dorothy, was Lauren Hannaford, a former elite gymnast who has now launched her very on fitness empire.
The former member of The Wiggles team — who also happens to be married to red Wiggle Simon Pryce — has now taken to her Instagram page to post a series of images, flaunting her incredibly toned body.
“Looking killer! I mean those abs tho!” one person posted, while another said “Goals! You look amazing and strong.”
Hannaford said her fitness style involves constantly changing up workouts.
“My exercise varies from doing a FHIT workout at home, training outside or going to the gym,” she told news.com.au
“If I find myself sitting behind the computer most of the day then I make sure I get outside and go for a walk in the afternoon. I find it hard to sit still for long periods of time so I always get out and get some fresh air when I can.”
The personal trainer left the hugely popular children’s entertainers group four years ago to focus on developing her own fitness program (FHIT).
“I was always going to end up back in fitness,” she told news.com.au
“I was coaching gymnastics for years and mixing gymnastics exercises with workouts before coaching.
“One day, I had a whole bunch of people come up to me wanting to do the same thing so I thought I’d better get my personal training certificate.”
The idea to start her own program was always sitting in the background but was put on hold when she took up an offer to join The Wiggles.
“Just after I got my personal training certificate, (blue Wiggle) Anthony Field randomly approached me during one of my gymnastic classes. I was coaching his three children.
“He saw the way I interacted with kids and my teaching style and asked if I wanted to audition for The Wiggles.”
The 32-year-old took up the offer — and was cast as characters Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus, and Wags the Dog.
“People don’t realise how heavy the costumes actually are,” she said, “but more importantly you have to be aware of your surroundings — especially the Dorothy costume.
“While you feel like you’re just standing there, you forget you body circumference is much bigger.
“I always had a such a passion for performance, but it wasn’t something I fully pursued, so doing The Wiggles gave me an opportunity to really pursue that passion more strongly,” she said.

“When I was part of the show it was very gymnastics and circus focused, but as the show naturally evolved it began transitioning out of that and into more strict pointe shoe ballet and Irish dancing which were not what I was trained in.”
Her time travelling nine months of the year with The Wiggles had given her the idea of a fitness routine that didn’t require a gym or equipment.
“I had to make exercise a priority in my day so I would decide the night before what time I would train and lock it in and commit to it. I then created workouts for myself that I could do anywhere. Whether it was in a hotel room, backstage at a theatre or in the carpark of the venue.”

FHIT by Lauren Hannaford only launched six months ago but has already attracted more than 2000 members.
“The workouts go from five minutes to 45 minutes and can be done from anywhere — it’s mainly for time-poor people — and you don’t need to be in a gym or have any equipment,” Hannaford said.
“I think people like it because it’s so interactive.
“I gets lot of people emailing about how they find themselves talking back to me on the screen which is quite funny.”
The workouts are a combination of all full-body weight exercises that focus on functional movement.

LAUREN’S DAY ON A PLATE
First thing I do when I wake up is drink a couple of glasses of water. Then I’ll have an espresso and get ready to train. I don’t like to eat before I train. I tend to graze as the day goes on and don’t sit down and eat big meals.
Breakfast varies from bananas and fruit to a protein shake or if I’m really hungry I have poached eggs with avocado.
Lunch would be some type of garden salad with a protein, probably chicken or tuna, or if I’m running around I will grab a couple of rice paper rolls.
Afternoon snack would most likely be a piece of fruit or a protein bar and dinner is always a plate of vegies with either a piece of chicken, salmon or red meat.
Maybe a couple of pieces of chocolate after dinner and then an apple to finish it all off.
LAUREN’S TOP TIPS TO FITNESS GOALS
Finding balance is all about being clear about the goals you want to set for yourself and being organised to achieve them. It’s also about understanding that you need to take it one step at a time and there is no secret or quick fix to reaching your goals. It takes time. Extreme dieting or training is impossible to maintain and so you need to find the balance between healthy eating and exercise.
For me if I’m out to dinner and want to have a glass of wine then I make sure I eat a healthy meal and I won’t have dessert. That’s what balance means to me.
